Airlines Cancel Hundreds of Flights

Airlines have proactively canceled hundreds of flights and are waiving change fees for customers ticketed to fly to, from or through the region through Sunday. Airlines waived the fees as a way to encourage travelers to fly out before the storm or to put off travel until after it passes. Snow accumulations of up to two feet or more are forecast this weekend for cities like Washington , Baltimore and Philadelphia . The first flakes in those cities are expected to start falling Friday morning and afternoon.

Already, many flights have been proactively canceled ahead of the storm, disrupting travel plans for thousands of customers. The wave of proactive cancellations — and other storm-related schedule disruptions – are all but certain to ripple out across the USA . The various weather waivers come with restrictions that vary by airline, but – generally – they allow customers ticketed on flights via the region through the weekend to make one change without penalty. Southwest Affected states: Baltimore , Philadelphia , Pittsburgh , Washington Dulles Canceled: Southwest has canceled many flights at the above airports. At BWI, Philadelphia and Dulles, Southwest has canceled most flights beginning Friday afternoon. All of its flights at those three airports are canceled for Saturday, and the airline has canceled some flights at those three airports for Sunday morning. At Pittsburgh , Southwest says it has canceled “several of our evening flights to/from PIT on Friday, February 5 and a handful of our morning departures on Saturday, February 6.
